An explosion was just reported in Kerman, Iran, close to Qassem Soleimani's grave. 

Today is the fourth anniversary of the high-ranking Iranian military commander's assassination

Explosions reported at Kerman Cemetery, Iran, during a gathering at Qassem Soleimani's grave on the 4th anniversary of his assassination.

Thousands were in attendance at the time.Dozens of ambulances seen entering Golzar Shahada, Iran, following an explosion near Sahib Al-Zaman Mosque.

Security forces are moving in, dispersing the large crowd from the area.

IRAN MESSAGE TO THE UN ON ATTACKS IN KERMAN

With deep sorrow, I wish to bring to the attention of the United Nations Secretary-General and members of the Security Council another heart-wrenching terrorist attack that occurred in Iran today on 3 January 2024. This reprehensible act, characterized by two terrorist explosions near the burial site of Iran's General Qassem Soleimani in the city of Kerman during a ceremony marking his fourth martyrdom anniversary, deliberately targeted innocent people. Presently, it has resulted in the martyrdom and grievous loss of at least 103 lives, including children and women, and has left 211 others injured, some in critical condition.

Comprehensive investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators and organizers behind this premediated and appalling crime. Concurrently, the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to leveraging all available mechanisms to ensure accountability for those responsible and their accomplices in this heinous terrorist act.

The Islamic Republic of Iran unequivocally condemns such abhorrent acts of terrorism and remains steadfast in the pursuit of justice for the victims. We urgently implore the Secretary- General and the Security Council to condemn this horrific terrorist attack unequivocally. This request aligns with the Secretary-General's unwavering stance and the established practice of the Security Council in unequivocal condemnation of terrorism and recognition of it as a grave threat to international peace and security through resolutions.

As one of the primary victims of terrorism and having directly experienced its catastrophic consequences, the Islamic Republic of Iran remains steadfast in its unwavering commitment to leading the fight against this scourge.

I should be grateful if you would have the present letter circulated as a document of the Security Council."

STATEMENT FROM AYATOLLAH KHAMENEI 

ON KERMAN ATTACK

"'In the name of God. The evil and criminal enemies of the Iranian nation once again created a disaster and martyred a large number of our dear people in Kerman and in the fragrant atmosphere of the martyrs' cemetery.

The nation of Iran mourned and many families mourned the death of their loved ones. The hard-hearted criminals could not tolerate the love and enthusiasm of the people to visit the shrine of their great commander Qassem Soleimani. 

Let them know that the soldiers of the pure Soleimani will not tolerate their vileness and crime. Both the hands stained with the blood of innocents and the corrupt and mischievous brains that led them to this error, will be the definite target of repression and just punishment from now on. Let them know that this disaster will have a hard response, God willing.

I sympathize with the bereaved families and pray for their patience and consolation from the Almighty God. The pure soul of the martyrs, God willing, is the guest of the lady of two worlds and the mother of the martyrs, Hazrat Siddiqah Tahirah, peace be upon them. I sympathize with the injured and pray for their healing."

While emphasizing the pursuit and identification of the black-hearted designers and commanders of this inhuman act, I ask all the provincial officials to take necessary measures as soon as possible to relieve the pain of the victims and treat the injured and return order and peace to the city of Shahid Parvar, Kerman. carry out.

Undoubtedly, the perpetrators and leaders of this cowardly act will soon be identified and punished for their heinous act by the capable security and law enforcement forces.

The enemies of the nation should know that such actions can never cause a disruption in the iron determination of the Iranian nation in defending Islamic ideals, and they are more determined than in the past to dry up the roots of terror and violence in the battlefield. They will be present with the enemies of Iranian and Islamic dignity and authority.

The explosive factor of this action is under investigation. We have information, but it must be decided that people should not pay attention to rumours. The necessary information will reach the public through the media.

Our security and law enforcement forces are vigilant and will slap the criminals hard.
It is wrong to think that they can weaken people's resolve with cowardly and blind methods. Our people are standing firm.

Emergency services in Kerman report 103 fatalities and 211 injuries from the explosion.

The explosions were caused by bombs placed in two bags, while a representative from Rafsanjan mentioned an explosive belt.
